At Piltainga our aim is to produce a Maremma Sheepdog that conforms to the authorized Standard has a temperament that enables the animal to successfully perform as a working dog, a show dog or a companion animal. We have recently imported a male from the United Kingdom; this dog is from an Italian bitch mated to the Italian dog that was Best of Breed at "Crufts" in 1978 and will be the mainstay of our breeding program in the immediate future.
Piltainga was established in 1996 out of sheer necessity. As a breeder of Angora Goats we were losing an unacceptable number of animals to feral dogs and had tried all the normal means of control without success, so in desperation purchased a Maremma Bitch, "Bella"
We placed Bella with our goats and achieved immediate results, our losses to predators stopped completely and so started our association with this wonderful breed. Over the years we have owned and campaigned three Males and one Female to Grand Champion Status.
At this time we have two bitches and two dogs which constitute our breeding and showing team. We are registered breeders with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and are members of the Canine Control Council of Queensland and Dogs New South Wales.
Our pups have been purchased as working dogs, show dogs and companion animals they are to be found in most states of Australia and have been exported to the USA (Hawaii). View an article published by Dog World about the quality of Maremma Sheepdogs we breed.
